FRAUDSTER REMANDED – rips off three persons he collected money from and promising to buy cars for them

GUNRAJ Raghubeer, 23, of Lot 26 Gordon Street, Kitty, Georgetown, appeared before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry on Friday last, on indictable charges of fraudulent conversion.

Particulars of one offence said, on Monday, January 21, being solely entrusted by Mark Fung with $1,360,000, he promised to purchase a Premio motor car for him before March 29, but fraudulently converted the money to his own use.
Another allegation against Raghubeer said, on January 8, also in the city, being solely entrusted by Narine Ramkission with $500,000, after he promised to buy him a Spacio motor car on or before February 29, he committed a similar offence.
It is alleged, too, that on January 8, being solely entrusted by Latchman Chintaman with $500,000, he also converted the money to his own use after promising to get him a Toyota 212 on or before February 29, 2013.
Police Sergeant Kerry Bostwick, prosecuting, objected to bail on the grounds that the defendant is a flight risk and considering the nature of the offences and quantum of cash involved.
As a result, Raghubeer was remanded to prison and the cases will be called, again, on April 16.
