QUICK police action resulted in the arrest of one man, following a daring daylight armed robbery at Ram’s Jewellery Store and Pawn Shop, located at Rosignol, West Bank Berbice, on Tuesday. The detained suspect has been identified as one of the two who committed the crime about 09:45 hrs.
Police reported that two men, one of whom was armed with a firearm, entered the business place of Chandroutie Ram, 46, who, together with her son, Bisham Ram, 22, was held at gunpoint.
The two perpetrators placed the victims to lie on the floor and took a quantity of jewels from the showcases before escaping on two bicycles.
The police responded promptly to the report and conducted searches spearheaded by anti-crime patrols. Subsequently, acting on information received, the arrest was made in the vicinity of the Berbice River Bridge.
The man nabbed was holding on to a pontoon and the search of a bag in his possession yielded some of the booty, an unlicensed .32 pistol with nine matching rounds and another unlicensed .38 snub-nose revolver with four matching rounds.
The manhunt for the other robber is continuing.
