Police successfully object to bail in robbery case

ACTING Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry yesterday upheld a police objection and refused bail to Amo Ali (no address given) on charges of robbery under arms and simple larceny.
Ali pleaded not guilty to the April 16 offences, particulars of which said he robbed Jaitoon Ahmad, at knifepoint, of one $45,000 pair of bangles and $10,000 pair of gold earrings.
Police Sergeant Kevin London, prosecuting, objected to pre-trial freedom for the defendant, citing the seriousness of the crimes.
The magistrate remanded Ali to prison until June 21.
