Workmate charged with theft claims he borrowed phone

RAFON Turvin, 22, appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson yesterday, on a simple larceny charge.

He pleaded not guilty to the offence, particulars of which said, on December 27, 2009, he stole $85,000 and one mobile phone valued $45,000, property of Alex Douglas.

Police Inspector Stephen Telford, prosecuting, said the defendant and the virtual complainant work at the same place and the phone was recovered in the possession of the former.

Turvin claimed borrowed the phone call his mother and, after the owner got it back, he called the Police.
Turvin was put on $30,000 bail until January 20.
