Wanted boat captain arrested with ammo in possession

–remanded to May 20

BOAT CAPTAIN Elvin Matthew of Poker Street, Linden was remanded to prison yesterday for unlawful possession of ammunition. He was also wanted for violations of the Sexual Offences Act (SOA).He pleaded not guilty to the charge that, on May 8 at Burnham Drive, Wismar Linden, he had in his possession one 16-gauge cartridge without being the holder of a firearm licence.

Police Inspector Michael Grant, prosecuting, told the court that on the day in question, police received information that the defendant, already a wanted man, was at Burnham Drive. Apprehended, a search was conducted on his person and the ammunition was allegedly found in his left side pants pocket.

The prosecutor objected to the defendant being granted bail on ground that no special reason was given to the court for bail to be granted.

The matter has been transferred to the Matthews Ridge Court for May 20.
