AGRICULTURE Minister, Dr. Leslie Ramsammy, on Wednesday handed over a boat and engine to the Pine Ground First Savannah Farmers Group, in fulfillment of a promise made to residents during his last visit.
The boat and engine, which was procured at a cost of $1.8M, is expected to significantly assist not only the 31 members of the group, but also the community, according to a press release.
Chairman of the Group, Mr. Bholanauth Deolall, lauded the move by the government, noting that the gesture will go a far way.
He said, “I would like to thank the Ministry of Agriculture and by extension Dr. Ramsammy for fulfilling a request made by us the members of this group…We are extremely happy today, because this boat and engine will go a far way in assisting the farmers in transporting their produce out of the Creek to the market.”
The Agriculture Minister, while handing over the keys to the Secretary of the Group, reminded them that while government will like to address all requests made, development takes time and as such it happens in phases.
He urged the group to care the boat and engine and to ensure that they are used for the intended purpose, the release added.
