Cabinet signals no objection to $767m in contracts

CABINET gave its no objection to contracts in the health, legal affairs and sports sectors at its last meeting.

Head of the Presidential Secretariat (HPS), Dr. Roger Luncheon disclosed the details of the contracts during his press briefing at Office of the President.
He noted that in the health sector, a $375m odd contract will see the construction of a medical building for the Port Kaituma Hospital in Region 1 (Barima/ Waini); $32.6m for the supply of medical and physiotherapy equipment; $54m for the supply and delivery of contraceptives and related items for the maternal and child health programme; and $48.9m for the procurement of supplies for the Radiotherapy Department of the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC).
In the legal affairs sector, Luncheon stated that some £57,000 ($193.8m) will go towards the procurement of law books.
Synthetic Track
An additional $62.2m will go towards Phase Three of works on the synthetic athletic track in Region 3 (Essequibo Islands / West Demerara) to advance the sports sector.
Cabinet is expected to meet again next Tuesday.
