Azruddin Mohamed and the opposition have sacrificed an innocent woman

HERE are the words of party leader, Amanza Walton, who contested the 2025 general election so she can run the country: “The Leader of the Opposition is repeatedly arrested. This is becoming tiresome, and we are becoming a joke internationally. This constant harassment of the man and his family is completely unnecessary!”

Either this is reckless, stupid, or insane. Which country Ms. Walton is living in? The ignorance in Ms. Walton’s pronouncement is incredible. Let us dwell on the words, “repeatedly arrested.”

Azruddin Mohamed’s party, WIN, has just four seats more than the PNC. How many times since the election of 2025, the leader of the PNC, Mr. Norton has been arrested. The answer is none.
The parliamentary leader of the PNC is Terrence Campbell. Since he acquired that position, how many times has he been arrested? The answer is none. Genesh Mahipal is the longest serving PNC parliamentarian. How many times has he been arrested? The answer is none. How many times Ms. Walton herself has been arrested? The answer is none.

Which hierarchical member of the PNC and WIN and all the opposition parties have been arrested? The answer is none. David Hinds represents the WPA in parliament and is considered an extremist.

When was David Hinds ever arrested? The answer is none. Tacuma Ogunseye is regarded by this society as a violent advocate. He was arrested only once since the PPP came to power in 1992 and that was two years ago for incitement.

The obvious curiosity is why these people are not locked up or charged but Mohamed, according to Walton, is “repeatedly arrested?” The answer is obvious for even a school kid to understand. Mohamed wants to be arrested so he can capture the publicity profit and sympathy embrace that he desperately seeks.

But there is a frightening dimension to the publicity and sympathy that Mohamed craves. He is bent on committing illegal acts so he can confront the security forces and be arrested.

Mohamed and those who back him like Walton are encouraging Mohamed because a politician can commit illegally grievous things, but he is allowed a licence to do it because if he is arrested then the state is harassing him.

Let’s repeat what Walton wrote: “This constant harassment of the man and his family is completely unnecessary!” How can it be unnecessary to prosecute a politician when that politician goes around Guyana openly breaking the laws? This is a concatenation of illegal acts. It just goes on and on.

Mr. Mohamed rode a fast driven speed boat at night on the rivers of Guyana and the boat’s licence expired almost a decade ago. Mr. Mohamed did the unthinkable and flew drones over the private residence of the President. At midnight. Mr. Mohamed was surveying the residence of the Special Branch head who is a witness in Mr. Mohamed’s criminal case.

An elected government becomes untenable in a country if it does not arrest Mr. Mohamed for these alleged criminal infringements. Then Mr. Mohamed showed his cruelty by sacrificing two young policemen. He allegedly bribed the cops to secure a surveillance tape without the policemen knowing that Mohamed will show the tape publicly.

I believe Mohamed did not tell the lads he wanted the tape to publicly air it. Had he told the cops that then he would not have received it because the ranks know that once made public, the recording can indicate how the taping was done and by whom. These young policemen have been cruelly sacrificed, and Walton did not mention them.

Ubraj Narine, former mayor of Georgetown and former PNC minister, Ronald Bulkan, who went to a vigil for Mohamed did not mention the exploitation of the policemen by Mohamed. One can only wonder about the pain of the mother of one of the policemen, who was also taken into custody. Mohamed caused that mother to be arrested because he manipulated the lady’s son.
So, where are the voices of those women groups that are running all over Guyana denouncing Karembaksh. This mother was incarcerated because of the cruel manipulation of Azruddin Mohamed. This mother has been sacrificed on the altar of deadly politics, and the perpetrator is not Mohamed alone but the opposition parties that are falling over each other to get into Mohamed’s pocket.

Do you see something strange going on? As soon as an incident occurs that makes the government look bad, the so-called victim is visited by opposition politics, anti-government civil society actors, and the private media. To date, not one person from those entities have spoken with the mother. They will not. She and her son were pawns in a game played by Mohamed and the opposition has long forgotten about her.
