Mindful Guyana Inc. launches ‘Nature Through My Lens’ photography challenge for children

MINDFUL Guyana Inc. is inviting children of Primary School age in local communities across Guyana to participate in “Nature Through My Lens”, a children’s nature photography challenge running from November 1 -30, 2026.

The initiative encourages children to explore their surroundings and use mobile phone cameras to capture exceptional, unusual or beautiful features of nature.

Through this activity, the organisation aims to nurture curiosity, creativity, environmental awareness and a deeper appreciation of Guyana’s natural heritage.

Children are encouraged to explore their backyards, gardens, school compounds and other safe environments to photograph plants, flowers, butterflies, birds, insects, trees, rivers, cloud formations and other remarkable natural features.

The idea is simple: Nature has something extraordinary to offer every child. Sometimes, all it takes is a closer look to discover it.

“Nature Through My Lens” also promotes the positive, educational use of technology by turning the mobile phone camera into a tool for observation and discovery.

Rather than focusing solely on screen-based entertainment, children will be encouraged to engage directly with their natural environment.

The organisation emphasises that an exceptional photograph need not feature a rare animal or spectacular landscape. It could capture an insect resting on a leaf, the intricate patterns of a flower, raindrops on a spider’s web or sunlight filtering through the trees.

The challenge is about seeing nature differently, appreciating its details and sharing those discoveries with others.

Participants will be invited to submit original photographs accompanied by a brief caption describing what they captured and why it interested them.

Entries will be assessed on originality, creativity, composition and the child’s observation and appreciation of nature. Outstanding participants will have the opportunity to receive awards and recognition.

The challenge is open to children of Primary School age throughout Guyana, including those in local communities beyond the main urban centres.

Children may use their own mobile phones or those of their parents or guardians, with permission. No specialised photography equipment is required as the emphasis is on curiosity, discovery and creativity rather than the device used.

Mindful Guyana Inc. encourages parents, guardians, teachers and community organisations to share the opportunity and support children’s participation. Safety and environmental responsibility are essential: children should not disturb wildlife, damage plants, enter hazardous areas or put themselves at risk to capture a photograph.

Through this initiative, Mindful Guyana Inc. hopes to inspire young Guyanese to connect more meaningfully with their environment and recognise the importance of protecting the country’s rich natural heritage.

Children are invited to look closely, discover something extraordinary, capture it through their lens and share their discovery with Mindful Guyana Inc.

The photography challenge runs from November 1 to November 30, 2026. Submission instructions, competition guidelines, prizes and the official entry channel will be announced through Mindful Guyana Inc.’s designated communication platforms.
