NAMEBRAND/CORRIVERTON, led by a brilliant 90 not out from Nickasie Osbourne and an unbeaten 56 from her opening partner Rea Harris, cantered to an easy10-wicket victory over Invaders to earn top honours in the women’s category when the third edition of the Vice-president’s T20 Softball Cup, climaxed at the Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) ground, Queenstown, Georgetown, yesterday.
Set 150 for victory after Essequibo’s Invaders had reached 149 for seven in their allotted 15 overs, the pair delighted spectators with some fierce hitting with Osbourne smashing 11 fours and four sixes from 39 balls, while Harris’s knock was decorated with eight fours from 44 balls.
The victory, in the Georgetown Softball Cricket League (GSCL) organised tournament, also ensured a maiden title for the Berbicians, while Invaders, who defeated defending champions Supreme Stars in their opening game on Friday and also pre-tournament favourites, 4R Lioness in the semi-final, failed to replicate their opening day’s heroics.

Earlier, opener Kareena Smith was the lone standout for Invaders with a fine unbeaten 56 off 39 balls, striking three fours and two sixes; but apart from 25 (four fours) from Latifah Cornette, she failed to get the needed support from the other batters. Denellie Lindee finished with the impressive figures of three for 24 from her two overs.
The winners took home $300, 000 and the winners’ trophy while Invaders collected $100, 000 and the runners-up trophy.
Fraser carted off the lion’s share of the individual prizes – an electric motorcycle for being the Most Valuable Player (MVP) in the women’s category, a Milex refrigerator for scoring the most runs (198), compliments of Regal Stationery & Computer Centre and a trophy for being the player of the final.
Skipper Sonia Hartman of Namebrand/Corriverton received a water dispenser for taking the most wickets (five), while Linda Stevens of 4R Lioness was rewarded with an air-fryer for scoring the lone century (107) versus Invaders in a losing cause in the sem-final.
All the trophies for the tournament are being donated by Ramesh Sunich of Trophy Stall fame.
Fisherman also defeated Regal Legends in a close Over-50 encounter, details to follow in a subsequent issue. The other two finals, Regal Masters versus Ariel Trophy Stall in the Masters Over-40 and Speedboat/Ariel against Hyde Park in the Open All Class rounded off the day’s activities.
