STUDENTS from Jacklow, Region Two, will benefit from safer and more reliable transportation to school following the handover of a brand-new school boat by Regional Chairman Devin Mohan on behalf of the Regional Democratic Council (RDC), on Thursday.
The new boat is expected to strengthen daily transportation arrangements for students travelling from the riverine community to secondary schools along the Essequibo Coast, providing a more dependable means of getting to and from their classrooms.
For parents and guardians, the provision of the boat is expected to ease some of the challenges associated with ensuring that their children attend school consistently, particularly in communities where access to education depends heavily on water transportation.
Regional Chairman Devin Mohan said the initiative reflects the RDC’s commitment to ensuring that students in riverine communities have access to the transportation they need to pursue their education.
“Every child deserves an opportunity to access education, regardless of where they live. We recognise that students from riverine communities face unique transportation challenges, and providing a school boat is an important step towards making their daily journey to school safer and more reliable,” Mohan said.
He added that investments in essential services must continue to address the practical challenges faced by families, while ensuring that students are given the opportunity to attend school regularly and work towards their academic goals.
The handover forms part of ongoing efforts to improve access to education in Region Two, where geographical barriers can create additional challenges for students travelling from riverine and remote communities.
Reliable transportation is an important part of the education system, particularly for children who depend on boats to reach school. A consistent service can help reduce transportation difficulties for families and support students in maintaining regular attendance.
The initiative also highlights the importance of ensuring that public services reach communities beyond the main coastal corridor, where access to schools and other essential facilities may require additional logistical support.
With the new boat, students from Jacklow are expected to benefit from improved transportation arrangements, helping to make their daily journey to school more dependable and supporting their continued pursuit of education.
