Nigel London, Azruddin Mohamed and homo sapiens

WITH a perspective on politics circling around the theme of PPP/PNC rapprochement, at the funeral of Robert Corbin, Vice President Jagdeo has generated commentary from several sources but particularly PNC parliamentary leader, Terrence Campbell; former PPP stalwart, Ralph Ramkarran and Chronicle columnist and podcast host, Leonard Craig.
My response to Campbell is in my Sunday last Chronicle in which I dismissed forthrightly Campbell’s possibility of a combined opposition defeating the PPP at the next national election. In that column, my essential point was who in the coalition determines who the people will vote for.
I mentioned opposition figure, Nigel London. This man has a Christian church where he preaches to his fellow humans and he becomes a parliamentarian in 2029 because he merged his party with the party of Amanza Walton and they will share the one House seat they got in 2025
When London’s parishioners look at his cuss-down social media programme in which I was called a monkey, when Guyanese voters look at that video, when the homo sapiens species look at that video, when Terrence Campbell look at that video, they must wonder if a combined opposition with such a person in its leadership can defeat the PPP in 2026? The answer is no.
Mr. Ralph Ramkarran thinks that Campbell has in mind a coalition with WIN for the 2030 election.
Here is Ramkarran: “…it may well be that for the PNCR, a unified list of the PNCR and WIN at the next elections offers the better possibility of removing the PPP from office. Many may interpret the Vice President’s remarks as being based on its fears of WIN, that WIN’s electoral potential poses an electoral danger to the PPP. Terrence Campbell said as much.”
My analysis leads in a different direction. Here is why. Azruddin Mohamed got PNC votes in 1925. But this was a year ago. The entire Guyanese population has seen who and what Mohamed is. There are serious negative aspects of Mohamed’s politics that will erase WIN’s support in 2030.
First, Mohamed has no political thoughts about him. He cannot speak about politics and policies. The number of PNC voters who were attracted to him in 2025 has been substantially reduced. Secondly, Mohamed is riding on a regime that has catapulted him in the same frame with CN Sharma – he comes across as comical.
What he said about his encounter with the Special Branch chief, Mr. Prem Naraine, is downright comical and when PNC voters look at the video clip, they will find that is not the man they found interesting in 2025. Mohamed told the media that Narine stood about eight feet away from him and kept firing at him in an assassination attempt.
Put a water gun in the hand of a 10-year-old and tell a six-year-old to stand in front of the gun about eight feet away. Tell the water gun boy to shoot at the six-year-old. In the science of physics, it is impossible for the six-year-old not to get wet. In the real world, Mohamed would have been hit several times. Is this, the man that people want to vote for in 2030? I doubt it.
Thirdly, the bandwagon that Mohamed is riding on has to experience the law of diminishing return. Mohamed goes around Guyana taunting the security forces and the government by doing illegal things. He is looking for sympathy that comes from the publicity but there is only so much he can achieve because sooner than later people will start thinking.
And they have. He made a mistake with Mr. Narine. You have to be an irredeemably stupid person to justify an accused in a criminal trial going to a witness’ house late into the night and surveying the witness’ residence and that person is one of the country’s most sensitive state security officers. If Mohamed keeps on that regime, his supporters will dismiss him.
Fourthly, there will be no Mohamed and no WIN in 2027.The trial will be over and Mohamed will be extradited to the US to face some formidable charges that involve transactions in the Middle East and Venezuela. Mohamed’s existence is uncertain.
Fifthly and finally, even if WIN survives after Mohamed is gone it will not get significant votes. In 2025, PNC voters switched from PNC to Mohamed. With Mohamed out of the way, they will either switch back to the PNC or stay home. There is no guarantee with Mohamed out of the way a PNC/WIN coalition can bring in substantial votes in 2030. The PNC is better off in 2030 going it alone or with a more credible third party but certainly not the party of “apostle” Nigel London or the AFC.
