CRICKET administration in Guyana has taken a historic leap forward with Region One (Barima/Waini) formally integrated into the country’s national structure, marking a landmark moment for hinterland sports development.
Formalised through a constitutional amendment at a Special General Meeting of the Essequibo Cricket Board (ECB) in October 2026, the Barima/Waini Cricket Association is now officially incorporated under Schedule IV of the Guyana Cricket Administration Act of 2014.
This milestone marks the culmination of sustained developmental efforts launched in 2021 under the current Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) administration, led by President Bissoondyal Singh and ECB President Deleep Singh.

The structural integration opens up vital, formal pathways for players, clubs, and communities across the hinterland to compete at organised levels.
The regional initiative has already yielded impressive results on the field, with several talents rising through the Essequibo system to represent county and country. Among them is Alia Henry, who earned a coveted spot in the West Indies Under-19 cricket camp, alongside emerging prospects like Darwin Joseph, Yonette Welcome, Anastasia Valenzuela, and Bruce Vincent.
Led by elected Chairman Sherlon Rodrigues, Vice Chairman Rich Skinner, Secretary Earl Doningo,Treasurer Letesha Rose Benn, and Assistant Secretary/Treasurer Earl Richards, the Barima/Waini Cricket Association has a strong grassroots foundation of 20 affiliated clubs.
With formal recognition now secured, the GCB and ECB aim to accelerate coaching, talent identification, and competitive structures, ensuring that Guyanese cricket continues to grow as a genuinely inclusive national institution.
