THE Ministry of Labour and Manpower Planning, on Wednesday, engaged business owners in Region Three on employment standards, workers’ rights and occupational safety as part of efforts to promote fair, safe and productive workplaces across Guyana.
The Conditions of Work Seminar was held on October 14, 2026, in the Region Three Department of Education Boardroom under the theme, “Promoting Fair, Safe and Productive Workplaces”.
The seminar featured presentations on conditions of work, occupational safety and health, recruitment and employment services, technical and vocational training, and social security and the National Insurance Scheme (NIS).
The discussions provided an opportunity for business owners to gain a better understanding of labour legislation, workplace safety requirements and the services available to both employers and employees.
Emphasis was also placed on raising awareness of workers’ rights and encouraging employers to adopt practices that support safe working conditions, fair treatment and improved productivity.
The ministry’s engagement forms part of its wider efforts to strengthen compliance with labour laws and promote constructive relationships between employers and employees.
By providing information on employment standards and available support services, the ministry continues to encourage businesses to maintain workplaces that protect workers’ welfare while supporting efficient and sustainable operations.
Such initiatives are intended to improve understanding of employers’ responsibilities, help workers become more aware of their rights and contribute to safer and more productive working environments throughout Guyana.
