THE Guyana Mining School and Training Centre Inc (GMSTCI) has commenced a short course in jewellery repair and restoration aimed at equipping participants with practical skills to support the development of Guyana’s jewellery industry.
The course is being facilitated by veteran jeweller and consultant to the Ministry of Natural Resources, Dominic Gaskin, who introduced participants to the tools, machinery and techniques used in repairing, restoring and maintaining jewellery.
During the introductory session, Gaskin engaged participants in discussions on the principles and practices of jewellery repair and restoration, while familiarising them with the equipment used in a professional workshop.
The training is designed to develop participants’ technical competence and understanding of specialised tools and processes, providing them with practical knowledge relevant to the jewellery trade.
The initiative forms part of the Ministry of Natural Resources’ ongoing efforts to expand technical training opportunities, strengthen skills development and build capacity within Guyana’s jewellery sector.
Through such programmes, the ministry and GMSTCI are seeking to support the development of specialised skills that can contribute to the growth and sustainability of the industry.
