SHAKEEL Babb and Jonathan Jeffrey delivered a strong performance to take hardware on Sunday at the Mr. Universe bodybuilding classic held in Medellin, Colombia.
Babb took gold in the junior men’s bodybuilding contest in a highly competitive field.
While Jonathan Jeffrey captured silver in the men’s physique up to 174 cm at Mr. Universe, delivering a chisel frame on stage.
Videsh Sookram, President of the Guyana Body Building and Fitness Federation, said, “They were over 200 athletes. Jonathan Jeffrey just came off a gold at CAC and had very tough competition, but he managed to come in second in his class, men’s physique, for a competition of this magnitude and his first semi-pro show. It is good for Guyana to get a silver medal, and for Babb, the first time competing outside the country, he managed to come away with a gold medal.”
He says the success keeps the momentum, and they now turn their attention to the Mr. Guyana show next month.
“Now we head to our Mr. Guyana on November 13th. The competition is looking tough already; we have over 30 athletes already showing interest in competing,” Sookram added.
