AFTER romping to victory in the inaugural women’s final of the Prime Minister T20 Softball tournament, played at the Guyana National Stadium in 2022 and retaining the title the following year at the Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) ground, Queenstown, 4R Lioness are once again champions as the ninth edition of the tournament, organised by the Georgetown Softball Cricket League (GSCL), in conjunction with the Office of the Prime Minister, climaxed at the Police Sports Club ground, Eve Leary on Sunday.
In 2022, 4R Lioness defeated Trophy Stall Angels by nine-wicket while the following year, the opponents were Highway Challengers. Earlier this year, they also captured the Diamond Jubilee tournament, held in honour of Guyana’s 60th Independence anniversary.
Led once again by Tamica Wilson, 4 R Lioness made light work of newcomers Bacchus X1 in Sunday’s low-scoring affair.
Set 87 for victory, after restricting the girls from West Demerara to 89 for six in the allotted 15 overs, 4R Lioness reached the required target in the 12th over, with Guyana and West Indies player, Cherry-Ann Fraser leading the way with a top score of 24.
Apart from copping the winning trophy, 4R Lioness also took home the monetary prize of $400,000 while runners-up Bacchus X1 received the runners-up trophy and $200,000.
The Most Valuable Player (MVP) award went to Delli Khan of Bacchus X1 who tallied 91 runs and claimed seven wickets. She received a four-burner gas stove for the MVP award, a microwave for taking the most wickets and floor model water dispenser for scoring the most runs.
Player of the final, Cherry-Ann Fraser received a trophy for her effort.
Trophies for all four categories were donated by Ramesh Sunich of Trophy Stall fame. (Frederick Halley)
