Vigilance resident granted $1M bail on abduction charge

JIMOL Murphy, a 33-year-old driver and contractor of Vigilance, East Coast Demerara, was charged with Abduction, contrary to Section 4 of the Kidnapping Act, Chapter 10:05.

 

Police said in a statement that Murphy was arrested on Friday September 25, 2026, in relation to an alleged abduction, which occurred on Saturday, August 29, 2026, at Rosignol, West Bank Berbice. He was subsequently charged.

 

On Thursday, Murphy appeared before Her Worship Magistrate Shareefah Parks, who presided virtually from the Fort Wellington Magistrate’s Court, where the charge was read to him.

 

He was not required to plead and was granted bail in the sum of GY$1,000,000.

 

The matter was adjourned to October 19, 2026.
