FIFTY-FIVE employers, employees and other stakeholders participated in a labour seminar in Anna Regina, Essequibo, as the Ministry of Labour and Manpower Planning continues efforts to improve public awareness of employment rights and workplace responsibilities.
The Conditions of Employment Labour Seminar, held on Tuesday, September 29, formed part of the Ministry’s ongoing nationwide programme aimed at increasing understanding of Guyana’s labour laws and the services available to workers and employers.
Participants were briefed on a range of employment-related issues, including labour inspections, minimum wages, overtime, termination of employment and severance pay.
The sessions also addressed probationary employment, child labour and Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) requirements.
Representatives also provided information on the services and programmes offered through the Central Recruitment and Manpower Agency (CRMA) and the Board of Industrial Training (BIT).
The discussions are intended to help employers and employees better understand their respective rights and obligations while promoting compliance with labour legislation and safer workplace practices.
The Ministry said the seminar series forms part of its broader efforts to strengthen awareness of labour laws, workplace responsibilities and available employment-related services across Guyana.
