BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, (CMC) – FORMER West Indies cricketers Dwayne Bravo and Ian Bishop were officially inducted into the Caribbean Premier League’s (CPL) Hall of Fame during a glitzy gala dinner at the Hilton Barbados on Tuesday night.
The 42-year-old Bravo became the first player to receive the newly created Sir Garry Sobers Award as the tournament’s first playing inductee, while Bishop 58, was inducted in the non-playing category.
Bravo, widely regarded as one of the best T20 all-rounders in the sport’s history, is the CPL’s most decorated player.
He has won five CPL titles as a player, with the Trinbago Knight Riders in 2015, 2017, 2018 and 2020, and with St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots in 2021, and added a sixth as head coach when he guided the Knight Riders to the title in 2025.
He is also the tournament’s third-highest wicket-taker of all time with 129 wickets.
The Sir Garry Sobers Award, the centerpiece honour of the CPL Hall of Fame, is named after the West Indies icon widely regarded as the finest all-rounder the game has produced, with the Sobers family granting CPL permission to attach his name to the trophy.
Meanwhile, Bishop was given the honour in recognition of his broadcasting career that has been part of the CPL story since the tournament’s launch in 2013.
His commentary has helped bring the “Biggest Party in Sport” to fans across the Caribbean and around the world, and Tuesday’s honour reflected his standing as one of the game’s most respected voices.
Pete Russell, CEO of the CPL said: “Dwayne and Ian represent everything this Hall of Fame was created to celebrate. Their contribution to this competition, on the field and behind the microphone, has helped build CPL into the phenomenon it is today, and it was a privilege to welcome them into this inaugural class.”
The gala also supported the Sir Clive Lloyd Healthcare Foundation’s prostate cancer awareness initiatives, with two new names to be added to the CPL Hall of Fame each year going forward.
