– kick-off set for Saturday
The 13th edition of Courts Optical U-11 boys’ football competition has been boosted by Sterling Products Limited ahead of Saturday’s kickoff.
The company indicated their support at a simple ceremony on Tuesday at their headquarters at Providence on the East Bank of Demerara.
Petra representative Troy Peters noted that, “As a true Guyanese company, Sterling Product continues to show its commitment to Guyana and especially the young people of this tournament, only recently supporting the U19 schools cricket tournament…. The Petra organization is extremely elated for the investment; the players and spectators alike look forward anxiously to all that the company provides during the matches and extend warm appreciation to CEO Ramsey Ali, Chief Executive Officer, and they can be assured their investment will be rewarded.”
He also recognized the work of the Ministries of Education and Sport for providing support and approval for the competition to once again be staged this year.
Marketing Manager of Sterling Products Limited Dellon Lynch said that the company continues to support the grassroots tournament because of its impact.
“You are on your way to ensuring that Pee Wee Under 11 touches each and every region of the country. Soon you are going to see schools coming from Lethem and Ashalton and those places because the impact is going to show what the Petra organization with the Pee Wee tournament is doing. I have noticed the students that take part have been excelling and improving in their skill… I made the promise some time ago that you will see Sterling again, and we have been coming again and again every year to show the commitment and partnership.”
Meanwhile, Sterling Products Limited Public Relations Manager Youlandra McCammon, speaking on behalf of the Edward B. Beharry Group of companies, says, ‘We are proud to support this initiative that brings together 36 schools using sports to develop their discipline, teamwork, confidence, and excellence among Guyana’s young people. She commended the young players for their bravery and willingness to keep developing.
“To the young players that are playing with passion and demonstrating sportsmanship to make this tournament an excellent one, we want to say hats off to you.”
The tournament will be played at the Ministry of Education ground and features 15 schools from Georgetown, 1 from Region 10 (One-Mile Primary), 3 from Region 7, 2 from Region 6, 1 from Region 5 (Rosignol Primary), 6 from Region 4, 4 from Region 3, and 2 from Region 2 and Santa Rosa Primary (Region 1).
The 13th court’s optical pee wee football tournament runs from September 19 to October 24. Leonora’s primary is the defending champion.
