Accused jewels thief granted $125,000 bail

A MINER charged with stealing a quantity of gold jewellery was granted $125,000 bail yesterday, by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry.

Particulars of the offence said Brian Jordon, of Lot 318 North East La Penitence, stole a gold finger ring, two gold bands and a pair of gold earrings, valued a total of $115,000, on October 23, from Kissoondial Persaud.
Police Corporal Bharat Mangru, prosecuting, said the virtual complainant and the defendant are known to each other and, that day, she had secured the jewels in a drawer and gave the keys to him.
However, it was reported that, when she returned she discovered the articles missing and she immediately reported the incident to the Police.
The defendant pleaded not guilty but asked the magistrate for him to be allowed to repay the woman and, eventually, an arrangement was worked out for him to pay the woman on November 18.
He will remain on bail until then.
