A SALES clerk at Game Express was remanded to prison yesterday, after he pleaded not guilty to attempting to steal some $2M worth of merchandise from his workplace.Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry, before whom he appeared, heard that Ryan Chow,21, of 197 Third Street, Anna Catherina, West Coast Demerara, between October 22 and 26, the defendant stole six 32 gigabyte iPods, five 16 gigabyte iPods, 10 vita game systems, two Nintendo DSI, 22 3DS games, and five memory cards, all valued $2.6M, property of Steve Hendricks.
Police Corporal Bharat Mangru, prosecuting, said Hendricks was prompted to investigate some stocks he noticed were missing on October 26 and his investigations led him to view his security footage on his CCTV camera where he saw the employee removing the items from the store.
After the business owner reported the matter, one Nintendo DSI was recovered from Chow, the prosecutor said, adding his objection to bail, pointing out that the inquiries were not complete.
He said statements are expected to be filed in three weeks.
On hearing that, the defendant exchanged a longing gaze towards his aunt who wore dark shades inside the courtroom.
The case was transferred to another Court for November 5.
