GUYANA Power and Light Inc. (GPL), through its Loss Reduction Department, conducted an illegal connection removal exercise on Wednesday at Kuru Kuru College Road, Soesdyke Highway.
During the exercise, according to information on the Ministry of Public Utilities and Aviation’s official Facebook page, more than 55 illegal connections were removed across 32 pole spans. Several persons were also warned to desist from illegally connecting to GPL’s network.
“Illegal connections can overload the network, damage critical infrastructure, contribute to power disruptions and pose serious risks of electrocution and electrical fires.
“GPL reminds the public that electricity theft is a criminal offence and will continue conducting exercises across communities to identify and remove illegal connections. Electricity theft is illegal and dangerous. Help us stop it,” the ministry highlighted.
