THE Central Housing and Planning Authority (CH&PA) has launched enforcement action against the unauthorised storage of more than 45 shipping containers on a residential property at Herstelling, East Bank Demerara, citing breaches of planning regulations and concerns over public safety.
Officers from the Authority’s Enforcement Department discovered the containers during a visit to Parcel 1614, Plot B, Herstelling, over the weekend.
No one was present at the property at the time of the inspection.
According to the CH&PA, the storage of the containers was unauthorised and contravened the approved use of the property, which is designated for single-family residential purposes.
The Authority also raised concerns about the manner in which the containers were stacked, noting that they pose a potential safety risk to nearby residents and properties.
A Notice of Contravention has since been served on the property, directing that all storage activities cease immediately and that the shipping containers be removed within this week.
The CH&PA reminded property owners and occupiers that all developments and changes in land use must comply with the relevant planning requirements and receive the necessary approvals.
The Authority said it will continue to actively monitor housing schemes and take enforcement action against unauthorised developments and activities that breach planning regulations or violate the approved use of residential lands.
The CH&PA reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the integrity of residential communities while ensuring orderly and sustainable development across the country’s housing schemes.
