POLICE destroyed more than $22.8 million worth of cannabis during a joint eradication exercise at Long Savannah, Canje Creek, Berbice River, on Tuesday, dismantling three farms spanning approximately 10 and a half acres.
Ranks from the Guyana Police Force Narcotics Branch and Regional Police Division #6 conducted the operation on September 1, 2026, during which an estimated 53,500 cannabis plants ranging from four inches to six feet in height were discovered.
The largest farm covered approximately six acres and contained about 30,000 cannabis plants, a makeshift camp, a drying area and approximately 20 pounds of dried cannabis.
A second farm, measuring about four acres, contained an estimated 20,000 cannabis plants, along with two makeshift camps and a nursery with approximately 9,600 cannabis seedlings in 75 trays.
The third farm, covering approximately half an acre, contained an estimated 3,500 cannabis plants.
During searches of the area, police also discovered a single-barrel shotgun, four shotgun cartridges and a multicoloured haversack containing three suspected rounds of ammunition — two suspected 9mm rounds and one suspected .32 round.
All of the cannabis plants were uprooted and destroyed, along with the makeshift camps, drying area and dried cannabis.
Police estimated the total value of the narcotics destroyed at GYD $22,834,696, comprising $13,043,800 in cannabis plants, $1,626,240 in nursery plants and $8,164,656 in dried cannabis.
No arrests were made during the exercise.
Investigations are continuing.
