GUYANA’S health sector has received another boost from China, with a new donation of medical supplies handed over on Wednesday, as the two countries move to deepen more than three decades of health cooperation.
Chinese Ambassador to Guyana, Yang Yang, and Minister of Health Dr. Frank Anthony attended the handover ceremony at the Ministry of Health.
The supplies were donated by a visiting delegation from China’s National Health Commission.
Ambassador Yang said health cooperation remains an important pillar of Guyana-China relations, pointing to continued Chinese support through medical supplies, technical exchanges, training and infrastructure development.
For more than 30 years, Chinese medical teams have served in Guyana, providing specialist care and sharing expertise with local healthcare professionals.
The Ambassador also highlighted China’s contribution to Guyana’s expanding health infrastructure, including the construction of several regional hospitals.
She said China is prepared to build on the partnership and work with Guyana to improve healthcare delivery and advance what she described as a “Healthy Silk Road” between the two countries.
Minister Anthony welcomed the donation and expressed appreciation for China’s longstanding support to Guyana’s health sector.
He said Guyana looks forward to expanding cooperation with China to ensure the partnership continues to deliver tangible benefits to citizens and strengthen the country’s healthcare system.
