A TOTAL of 339 children graduated from the Guyana Police Force (GPF) Zara Computer Centres’ summer programme in Region Three on Saturday, August 22, marking another milestone in the initiative’s efforts to provide free Information Technology training and strengthen police-community relations.
The annual graduation ceremony was held at the Leonora Secondary School and brought together graduates from the Parika, Leonora and La Grange Zara Computer Centres.
Of the 339 graduates, 88 completed the programme at the Parika Zara Centre, 132 at the Leonora Zara Centre and 115 at the La Grange Zara Centre.
Among those attending the ceremony were Commander of Regional Police Division #3, Assistant Commissioner Khali Pareshram; President of the Jay and Sylvia Sobhraj Foundation, Mr Jay Sobhraj, and Mrs Sylvia Sobhraj; IT Consultant Mr Nardeo Singh; Coordinator of the GPF Zara Computer Centres, Assistant Superintendent Esan Hinds; and members of the administrative staff.
The Zara Computer Centres continue to play an important role in the Guyana Police Force’s community engagement efforts by providing free Information Technology training to members of the public.
Through the initiative, residents, particularly young people, are given opportunities to develop digital skills while interacting with police personnel in a positive and supportive environment that extends beyond traditional policing.
The programme also provides a platform for members of the Force to engage directly with communities, while promoting education, skills development, discipline and community involvement.
The initiative is aimed at fostering greater understanding, confidence and trust between the police and the communities they serve.
Since its inception in 2012, the GPF Zara Computer Centres have provided Information Technology training to persons of all ages and backgrounds, underscoring the Force’s commitment to community-oriented policing and the development and empowerment of citizens.
