THE Transport Sports Club’s Two-week, Transport Development League (TDL) climaxed last week Friday with a grand presentation ceremony at their club on Thomas Road, Thomas Lands, Georgetown.

On the final day, the club closed with a ‘bowl out,’ bowling to stumps and ‘late for pad up’ and pack back their gear bag,’ which was followed by the presentation ceremony.

Caleb Bastian scored the most runs, 216, for the junior category, and Adam Mohamed captured the most wickets with 11.

For the next category, Afraz Khan scored the most runs with 179, and Wasim Ali got the most wickets with 10.

All participants received certificates and trophies.

The camp, in its second year, attracted 80 participants, including five girls between the ages of 8 and 14 and those aged 15 to 18 years, and was divided into two categories.

The smaller category teams were divided into four teams, and they played 30-over matches and 100-over matches at the Transport ground, while the 15 to 18 age group was divided into two teams.

“The biggest benefit of the camp was that eight youths were able to score 50 runs for the first time.

A number of them also bowled for the first time on a pitch, and two openers were able to put together a partnership of 135.

One of the girls, Yendy Sookanan, took four wickets.

It was a joy to see most players play with passion. They were able to grasp the knowledge of the game.

They played a 40-over match, a two-day match, and two T/25 matches at QC ground,” informed Club Captain and Head Coach Shawn Massiah.

According to Massiah, the Chairman of the Competitions Committee of the GCA, during the camp, notable personalities visited and spoke on various topics.

“We heard from former Guyana batter Mark Harper on batting and playing spin bowling, Superintendent Smith from the Guyana Police Force, along with Deputy Commissioner of Police Ravindradat Budram.

We also heard from Matthew Kissoon on umpiring and Nurse Carmen Lucas on preventing disease.
