MORE Guyanese have secured scholarships to study and train in China, Chinese Ambassador to Guyana, Yang Yang, said Friday, as the Chinese Embassy in Guyana celebrated the 2026 recipients of the China Government Scholarship.
She revealed that several Guyanese have travelled to China this year for professional training in fields including agriculture, healthcare, diplomacy, trade, standardisation and digital governance.
That growth, she said, is reflected in the launch of the Guyana–China Alumni Association earlier this year, which brings together Guyanese who have studied or trained in China, helping them stay connected, share experiences and build new partnerships.
“From long-term degree programmes to short-term professional training and now a growing alumni network, our co-operation is becoming more comprehensive and better connected,” the Ambassador said.
She said developing talent is important, but making the best use of it is even more important, noting that talent is the foundation of national strength and the driving force behind progress.
Capital, technology and projects all matter; however, “it is people who put them to work — people with the knowledge, skills and experience to turn opportunity into progress,” she said.
With Guyana experiencing a period of rapid growth and transformation, and new opportunities continuing to emerge, Ambassador Yang said skilled professionals will play an increasingly important role in supporting economic diversification, strengthening key sectors, and ensuring the benefits of growth are widely shared.
“Human resource co-operation is therefore a vital pillar of China–Guyana practical co-operation, which helps deepen our co-operation and turn shared opportunities into real results,” she said.
The Ambassador congratulated all the scholarship recipients and expressed appreciation to the Government of Guyana, educational institutions and other partners who have long supported China–Guyana co-operation in education and human resource development.
Addressing the recipients directly, she said a new journey is about to begin, and encouraged them to make the most of the opportunity, devote themselves to their studies, and build expertise in their chosen fields.
“At the same time, experience China beyond the classroom. Get to know the people and society. Observe, explore and think for yourselves. Most importantly, apply what you learn in China to Guyana’s development. Let this experience broaden your horizons, deepen your knowledge, and inspire new ideas,” she said.
