THE top executive leadership of the Guyana Sugar Corporation (GuySuCo) has issued a joint statement forcefully dismissing claims of internal conflict between the board and executive management, terming reports of a rift as false and baseless.
The statement, issued jointly by Chairman of the Board of Directors, Jairam Petam and Chief Executive Officer, Dr Paul Cheong, responds to recent assertions published by Vishnu Panday suggesting personal conflict and leadership divisions within the state-owned sugar company.
“These claims are completely false, irresponsible, and without any factual basis,” Petam and Cheong stated, categorically rejecting allegations that either leader is pursuing personal ambitions at the expense of the enterprise. The two officials maintained that they share a strong professional relationship rooted in open communication, mutual respect, and a commitment to returning GuySuCo to sustainable profitability.
The joint response comes as the corporation prepares to commence its critical Second Crop of 2026. Leadership expressed concern that reports of internal discord risk distracting workers during a vital period requiring disciplined collective effort across all production sectors.
Addressing employees and public stakeholders, the corporation’s leaders reassured the public that board governance and executive management remain aligned on operational goals. Current strategic priorities include boosting sugar production, optimising field and factory performance, strengthening financial accountability, and delivering improved yields during the upcoming harvest.
Petam and Cheong called on GuySuCo’s staff to ignore speculative commentary and remain focused on operational targets to ensure a successful crop cycle.
