— Ramsaroop urges Region Six businesses to pursue value-added production, tap new markets

BUSINESSES and entrepreneurs across Region Six are being positioned to tap into new investment and export opportunities as the Guyana Office for Investment (GO-Invest) intensifies efforts to strengthen production and expand the reach of Guyanese products into regional and international markets.

Guyana’s Chief Investment Officer and Member of Parliament, Peter Ramsaroop, in collaboration with the Berbice Chamber of Commerce and Development Association (BCCDA), recently engaged businesses and entrepreneurs from across the region on strategies to attract investment, expand exports and accelerate business growth.

During the engagement, Ramsaroop said GO-Invest is committed to working directly with businesses across Guyana to unlock investment opportunities, strengthen productive sectors and prepare more local companies to compete internationally.

He encouraged Region Six businesses to capitalise on the government’s investment-friendly policies by moving increasingly towards value-added production, improving quality standards and strengthening packaging and branding.

These steps, he noted, will be critical to ensuring that more Guyanese businesses become export-ready and are able to penetrate larger markets.

The engagement forms part of efforts to advance President, Dr. Irfaan Ali’s Vision 2030 for a diversified and globally competitive economy driven by increased production, exports, innovation and private-sector growth.

Ramsaroop pointed to Berbice as an important component of that transformation, noting the significant investments being made and planned across infrastructure, agriculture, energy, manufacturing, logistics and industrial development.

These investments are expected to strengthen Region Six’s position as a major centre for agro-processing, manufacturing, investment and export-led economic activity.

As Guyana’s national investment promotion agency, GO-Invest facilitates local and foreign investment, promotes exports and assists businesses seeking to establish, expand and scale their operations.

The agency also connects entrepreneurs and investors with government services and strategic partners, while its Investment Charter is intended to help create an enabling environment for business growth, innovation and sustainable employment.

Meanwhile, Member of Parliament Zamal Hussain highlighted the government’s planned development bank as another important mechanism for expanding economic participation.

He said greater access to financing would allow entrepreneurs, manufacturers and small and medium-sized enterprises to invest in their operations, increase production and take advantage of emerging opportunities in Guyana’s expanding economy.

BCCDA President Samantha Reid also reaffirmed the chamber’s commitment to supporting entrepreneurs and strengthening collaboration among businesses in Berbice.

She underscored the importance of continued partnership with GO-Invest to help businesses across the region become investment and export-ready.

The engagement also highlighted several businesses that have expanded production, attracted investment, entered export markets and generated employment with support from GO-Invest.

The agency said these successes demonstrate the growing competitiveness of Guyanese enterprises as efforts continue to build a stronger, diversified and export-driven economy.
