A 39-year-old Chinese national was remanded to prison on four traffic-related charges over the accident at Coverden, East Bank Demerara (EBD) which has left one dead and another injured.
Zeng Huqaing, of the CRBC Construction Camp, Kuru Kururu, Soesdyke-Linden Highway, appeared before Magistrate Tamieka Clarke at the Friendship Magistrate’s Court, where the four traffic-related charges were read to him.
He was not required to plead to the charges, which allege that he was driving while unlicensed, using an unlicensed motor vehicle, driving an uncertified motor vehicle and using an uninsured motor vehicle.

The charges stem from the August 5 collision involving motor van PAG 8745, which Huqaing was driving, and motorcycle CR 8010, operated by 21-year-old Christopher Thomas of Yarrowkabra, who died after the crash.
The court subsequently remanded him to Lusignan Prison, with no bail granted. The matter was adjourned to August 14 at 9 a.m. for continuation.
He is expected to face an additional charge of causing death by dangerous driving at a later date, as police continue their investigations.
Police said the fatal accident occurred on Coverden Public Road at about 8:45 p.m.
According to the initial police investigation, Huqaing was driving the motor van north along the western driving lane when, upon approaching the entrance to a worksite compound, he allegedly turned right into the compound without stopping.
During the turn, the motor van collided with the motorcycle, which was travelling south along the eastern driving lane.
Police said the motorcycle was allegedly travelling at a fast rate of speed at the time of the collision.
Thomas and a 24-year-old man of Grand Sand Road, Soesdyke, who was riding as the pillion passenger, were thrown onto the roadway following the impact.
Both sustained injuries and were taken to the Diamond Regional Hospital.
Thomas died while receiving medical treatment.
The pillion rider was also injured in the collision and was taken to the Diamond Regional Hospital for medical treatment.
Police said CCTV cameras were identified in the area and will be reviewed as part of the investigation.
A breathalyser test administered to Huqaing produced a reading of 0.07 micrograms, which police said was below the prescribed legal limit.
Huqaing was arrested on August 5.
The Guyana Police Force (GPF) said it remains committed to enforcing traffic laws and reminded motorists that driving without the required licence, vehicle certification and insurance can place other road users at serious risk and carries legal consequences.
