AGRICULTURE Minister, Zulfikar Mustapha, on Tuesday, met with representatives from the ITALCOL Business Group, one of Colombia’s leading agribusiness conglomerates, as part of a visiting delegation from Colombia.
The visit was organised by the Colombia-Guyana Chamber of Commerce (CCCG) and formed part of ongoing efforts to strengthen institutional relations and explore opportunities for collaboration between both countries within the agroindustry sector.
During the engagement, Minister Mustapha and representatives of ITALCOL discussed potential areas of cooperation, with particular focus on opportunities to share technical expertise and strengthen partnerships across the agricultural value chain.
ITALCOL brings more than five decades of experience in providing integrated solutions for animal production, with its operations centred on supporting efficiency and sustainability within the livestock and poultry industries.
The company’s extensive track record in the sector positions it as a potentially valuable partner for Guyana as the country continues to expand and modernise its agricultural output.
The meeting reflects the broader push by both the Guyanese government and the Colombia-Guyana Chamber of Commerce to deepen bilateral ties in agriculture; an area identified as a priority for co-operation given Guyana’s ongoing agricultural diversification efforts and its ambitions within the region’s food security agenda.
No specific agreements or timelines were announced following the meeting, but officials indicated that discussions on collaborative opportunities between the two countries’ agricultural sectors are expected to continue.
