Police are investigating an armed robbery in which a Peters Hall, East Bank Demerara businesswoman was relieved of millions of dollars in cash and valuables after three masked men stormed her business premises last week.
The alleged robbery occurred at about 2 p.m. on Thursday, July 23, and targeted a 33-year-old businesswoman of Peters Hall.
According to preliminary police investigations, the woman was at her place of business when she was confronted by three masked men, two of whom were reportedly armed with handguns.
Investigators said one of the suspects pointed a firearm at the woman and demanded money before the perpetrators allegedly bound her hands.
The suspects then escaped with three Samsung cellular phones, an Acer laptop computer, six Movado watches, a quantity of gold jewellery, GY$5 million in cash and US$7,000.
Police said the men fled the scene in a white, old-model Toyota Raum bearing registration number PLL 1323.
No shots were fired during the robbery, and the victim was not physically injured.
Investigators have since questioned several persons as part of the probe. Police also confirmed that CCTV cameras in the area have been identified and footage is being reviewed in an effort to identify the suspects and trace the getaway vehicle.
Investigations into the armed robbery are continuing.
