A 33-year-old man is in police custody after a Glock 19 pistol was allegedly found during a search at Issano Landing, Middle Mazaruni River, on Sunday.
The firearm was discovered between 07:45hrs and 08:15hrs during a police operation based on information received.
According to preliminary investigations, ranks conducted a search of a jet boat at Issano Landing which was being captained by the 33-year-old man, a resident of Long Dam, Vergenoegen, East Bank Essequibo.
During the search, ranks allegedly found a black Glock 19 pistol fitted with one magazine beneath a cardboard box next to the captain’s seat.
No ammunition was found.
The police said the man is not the holder of a firearm licence. He was arrested and escorted to the Issano Police Station, while the firearm was lodged.
The suspect remains in custody as investigations continue.
