FOUR members of the Regional Division 4 ‘B’ Road Safety Council have received training on defensive driving and other critical road-safety practices as part of efforts to raise awareness and strengthen institutional capacity in reducing traffic violations and road collisions.
The training session was conducted by the Traffic Education Section of Regional Division 4 ‘B’ on Friday, July 24, 2026, from 11:00hrs to 12:00hrs.
The participants were exposed to a range of road-safety issues, including the principles of defensive driving, the dangers and consequences of careless, dangerous and speeding offences, and the importance of wearing seat belts.
The session also addressed the need for motorists to maintain a safe following distance, practise safe overtaking, and avoid driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Particular attention was also drawn to driver distractions, including the use of mobile phones while operating a motor vehicle.
Participants were further reminded of the importance of conducting routine safety checks before operating vehicles and of demonstrating courtesy and consideration towards other road users.
As part of the initiative, the participants were encouraged to serve as road-safety ambassadors by sharing the knowledge gained with their families, friends, co-workers and members of their respective communities.
The outreach is intended to broaden public awareness of responsible road use, while helping to develop institutional capacity to promote safer driving practices and reduce the risk of traffic violations and collisions.
The session concluded with a question-and-answer segment, during which participants engaged with the facilitators and expressed their appreciation for the informative and interactive presentation.
