MAGISTRATE Fabayo Azore, on Wednesday, fined 18-year-old construction worker Alex Abrams Weeks $75,000, with the alternative of six months imprisonment, for a robbery with violence. That was after the Administration of Justice Act (AJA) was applied to the indictable charge and the defendant, of Phase Two, East Ruimveldt, Georgetown, pleaded guilty to the offence, particulars of which said that on Tuesday, October 22, also in the city, he stole a Blackberry cellular phone, valued $45,000 from policeman Dorset Blackman and made use of personal violence to the victim at the time, during or immediately after the incident.
Police Sergeant Ramsahoye Rambajue, prosecuting, told the Court that the virtual complainant is a Police constable stationed at Brickdam Station.
The Prosecutor said, that day, Blackman was walking in the western direction on the northern side of Brickdam, in the vicinity of Saint Stanislaus College, when the defendant rode up behind her and dealt her a slap on the left side of her face.
He then dismounted his bicycle and chucked and relieved her of the phone but two other Police ranks, who saw what happened, went to her assistance and recovered her property.
