GUYANA’S premier domestic football competition, the Elite League, will kick off its eighth season on 29 August following a landmark previous campaign that has helped propel local talent onto the regional stage.
The 10-team top flight will be contested over an eight-month, two-phase calendar.
The opening rounds will run until November, before the championship race resumes for a final stretch spanning February to May 2027.
Defending champions Slingerz FC headline a familiar cast of domestic heavyweights, joined this year by newly promoted Camptown FC.
The returning domestic schedule coincides with Slingerz’s current continental exploits, with the champions currently representing Guyana at the 2026 CFU Club Shield in Trinidad and Tobago.
They recently secured a dominant 4-0 first-round victory over the Turks and Caicos outfit SWA Sharks FC to advance to the last 16 of the regional tournament.
Football authorities in Georgetown will be hoping to build on the commercial and popular success of Season 7, which drew more than 27,000 spectators and generated upwards of 50 million digital views—metrics that underline the sport’s expanding footprint in the nation.
Guyana Football Federation (GFF) president Wayne Forde believes the league is fulfilling its mandate to strengthen local clubs and develop elite players for wider Caribbean competition.
“The Elite League represents the pinnacle of domestic club football in Guyana and remains central to our vision for the continued advancement of the game,” Forde said.
He added that Slingerz’s ongoing campaign on the regional stage is a direct result of providing Guyanese clubs with a consistent and highly competitive national platform.
Alongside Slingerz and Camptown, the upcoming title race will feature the established elite of Guyanese club football, including Guyana Police Force FC, Guyana Defence Force FC, Western Tigers FC, Santos FC, Monedderlust FC, Ann’s Grove United, Den Amstel FC, and Fruta Conquerors FC. With continental qualification and national pride at stake, the new season promises another fiercely contested race to the summit of Guyanese football.
