SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, (CMC) – Guyana, Jamaica and the Cayman Islands all struggled in the opening rounds of 3×3 basketball at the Commonwealth Games here on Friday.
In their first match of the men’s competition, Cayman Islands were edged 21-17 by Nigeria and also suffered a 22-13 loss to Scotland in their second match, before falling to Guyana 21-17.
t was Guyana’s lone win of the opening rounds as they lost to Scotland 21-14 and were crushed 21-3 by New Zealand.
Meanwhile, in the women’s division, Jamaica also ended the first day of competition with a 1-2 record.
They started off with a tough 18-17 defeat to Uganda before being beaten by Australia 21-13. However, they bounced back to thump the Cayman Islands 21-5 in their final match of the day.
The Cayman Islands’ women also found the going tough, as they also lost to Fiji 16-6 and Uganda 21-7.
