AS Guyana continues to mourn the devastating loss of lives in the MV Barima tragedy, Hindu communities across the country have come together in a powerful display of faith, unity, and compassion, offering prayers for the victims, survivors, grieving families, and all those affected.
Several mandirs affiliated with the Guyana Hindu Dharmic Sabha held special prayer services in their respective communities, bringing devotees together to seek divine blessings for peace, healing, and strength during this difficult time.
On the Essequibo Coast, the Anna Regina Mandir hosted a special prayer service where worshippers gathered to remember those who lost their lives and to pray for the families facing unimaginable grief.
Devotees offered prayers for the eternal peace of the departed souls, the recovery of survivors, and comfort for relatives awaiting news of missing loved ones.
On Thursday evening, Spring Garden Bhuvaneshwar Mandir and the Altruists Youth Group, also hosted a solemn evening of prayer and devotion. The gathering was marked by the chanting of the sacred Hanuman Chalisa, as members of the community united in faith to pray for the victims of the tragedy, their families, rescue teams, and everyone impacted by the heartbreaking incident.
President of the Guyana Hindu Dharmic Sabha, Dr Vindhya Persaud, attended the Shri Kirshna Mandir and also engaged devotees there. Dr Persaud said the entire country is with the families of those who lost their lives in MV Barima Tragedy.
The services reflected the Hindu belief that prayer provides comfort in times of sorrow and strengthens communities facing hardship.
Across the country, devotees lit diyas, offered flowers, and joined in collective prayers, asking for divine guidance, courage, resilience, and healing for a nation mourning one of its worst maritime disasters.
Religious leaders encouraged worshippers to continue supporting the bereaved through acts of kindness, compassion, and solidarity, reminding them that while words may not ease the pain of such a profound loss, the collective prayers and support of the community can offer hope and strength to those left behind.
The nationwide observances underscored the unity of the Hindu community, with mandirs opening their doors to all who wished to gather in remembrance, reflecting the shared grief of a nation standing together in support of the victims and their loved ones.
