A WOMAN who appeared before Sparendam Magistrate Alex Moore charged with ill-treatment and neglect of her children, on Wednesday, was remanded to prison.
Particulars of one offence said Angela Richardson, on Saturday, October 19, at Lot 973 ‘B’ Field Sophia, Greater Georgetown, being the mother of children 13, nine, seven, four and one year old, she willfully ill-treated them in a manner likely to cause them unnecessary suffering to their health.
The 40-year-old defendant pleaded not guilty to that and another offence, which alleged that on October 19, too, about 08:00 hrs, she left the five siblings unfed and unattended in her unkempt, muddled Sophia home.
An officer of the Child Protection Agency informed the Court that diligent investigations revealed that Richardson would, on a regular basis, leave her children hungry and unattended for prolonged periods, despite being assisted by the Ministry of Human Services and Social Security.
The mother was subjected to counselling by the ministry, to aid in her being a well-rounded parent but, according to the officer, she failed miserably and all efforts made to help proved futile, the Court was informed.
After listening to the Child Protection Officer, the magistrate denied Richardson bail and she has to be back in Court on November 27, for report.
