TOTALTEC Guyana Inc. and Advanced Human Development Associates (aHa) of Trinidad and Tobago have formalised a joint venture aimed at addressing Guyana’s growing shortage of trained and certified professionals as the country’s economy continues to expand.
The partnership has secured approval as a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) from the Council for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (CTVET) in Guyana, allowing it to deliver industry-relevant training and internationally recognised technical and vocational certifications.
The joint venture is expected to provide a broad range of training programmes in areas including leadership, managerial and supervisory skills, employee training, mental health coaching, creative industries, information technology and artificial intelligence, accounting and engineering technician disciplines.
Additional occupational certifications aligned with the needs of Guyana’s expanding economy are also expected to be offered.
The partnership comes against the backdrop of billions of dollars in investment, significant infrastructure development and the creation of new employment opportunities across Guyana, particularly in the oil and gas sector and other traditional industries.
TotalTec and aHa said the initiative is intended to help close the gap between the rapid pace of economic development and the availability of qualified human resources to fill emerging positions.
The partners said the TVET certifications offered through the initiative will also support the regional mobility of skilled workers by facilitating the free movement of certified labour across the Caribbean Community (CARICOM).
They further noted that training Guyanese workers to internationally recognised standards would contribute to the long-term development of the country’s workforce and strengthen the capacity of both the oil and gas industry and traditional economic sectors.
The joint venture is expected to provide opportunities for both employers and employees to strengthen existing skills and develop new competencies in response to the changing demands of the economy.
TotalTec and aHa said the initiative reflects the need for Guyana’s workforce to advance alongside the country’s rapid economic transformation, with a focus on building a sustainable pipeline of trained, certified and competent professionals.
