FOOD For The Poor (Guyana) Inc. will today take its annual Bright Smile, Bright Future oral health initiative to Long Creek Village, where approximately 100 children from the community and neighbouring areas are expected to benefit from preventive dental care and oral health education.
The programme, being held in partnership with the Long Creek Health Centre and the Region Four Health Authority, will target children between four and 12 years old and forms part of FFTP Guyana’s ongoing efforts to expand access to preventive healthcare in rural and remote communities.
The initiative will include oral health education sessions, demonstrations on proper toothbrushing techniques, basic screenings by healthcare professionals, individual guidance on caring for teeth and gums, interactive activities promoting healthy habits and dental services where necessary, including cleaning and extractions.
Each participating child will also receive a Bright Smile, Bright Future Oral Health Kit containing two toothbrushes, two tubes of fluoride toothpaste, face rags and educational materials to support the continuation of good oral hygiene practices at home.
FFTP Guyana said the annual programme is designed to address inequalities in access to oral healthcare while equipping children with the knowledge and resources needed to prevent oral diseases and maintain healthy teeth and gums.
The organisation noted that good oral health contributes to proper nutrition, clear speech, self-confidence and improved educational outcomes, making preventive dental care an important component of children’s overall development.

The organisation said the programme is founded on the principle that prevention is central to good health, with early education and practical support helping to establish healthy habits that can last a lifetime.
Parents and caregivers are also encouraged to reinforce the lessons taught through the programme by making proper oral hygiene a regular part of family life.
FFTP said Bright Smile, Bright Future is aligned with its Relief to Resilience strategy, which focuses on sustainable interventions in health, education and community empowerment to improve quality of life.
The initiative also contributes to several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, including Good Health and Well-being, Quality Education, Reduced Inequalities and Partnerships for the Goals.
The organisation described the programme as a partnership for better community health, noting that collaboration among healthcare providers, community leaders and civil society organisations is critical to delivering effective preventive services and promoting healthier lifestyles.
FFTP said Bright Smile, Bright Future is more than an annual outreach programme, describing it as an investment in the future of Guyana’s children.
