THE Central Islamic Organisation of Guyana (CIOG) has extended condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in the MV Barima tragedy while calling on Guyanese to remain united in compassion, solidarity and prayer as the nation continues to mourn.
In a statement issued as the country grapples with the loss of life resulting from the disaster, the CIOG expressed its deepest sympathy to the bereaved families, loved ones and all those affected by the tragedy.
The organisation also acknowledged the anguish being experienced by families still awaiting news of relatives who remain unaccounted for.
“May Almighty Allah, the Most Merciful, ease their distress, grant them steadfastness, and bless them with peace and comfort in the days ahead,” the CIOG said.
Quoting the Qur’anic verse, “Indeed, we belong to Allah, and indeed to Him we shall return” (Surah Al-Baqarah 2:156), the organisation said the solemn reminder calls on believers to place their trust in Almighty Allah while supporting one another with compassion, mercy and sincere prayer during times of overwhelming grief.
The CIOG also offered prayers for the survivors of the tragedy, seeking their complete physical and emotional recovery following the traumatic ordeal.
“May Almighty Allah restore your health, ease the emotional burden of this traumatic experience, and grant you the courage and resilience to move forward,” the organisation said.
It also prayed for continued strength and protection for all personnel and others involved in the ongoing search and recovery operations.
Against the backdrop of national mourning, the CIOG urged Guyanese to set aside differences and stand together in support of the victims, survivors and grieving families.
“Tragedies such as this remind us that, despite our diverse backgrounds and beliefs, we are one people, strengthened by our shared humanity and our willingness to support one another in times of need,” the organisation said.
The CIOG concluded by praying for comfort for grieving families, healing for survivors, protection for those involved in the search and recovery efforts, and peace, strength and enduring unity for Guyana.
