PLAISANCE FC has been crowned champions of the East Demerara Football Association (EDFA) Youth Ensemble Under-13 Competition following a thrilling conclusion to the campaign at the Buxton Ground.
The young squad secured the title by finishing with the tournament’s highest points tally, capping off an intense final round of matches on Friday.
The championship battle went right down to the wire. Buxton Stars FC entered the decisive fixtures entirely level with Plaisance, boasting five wins and eight goals apiece. However, in a tense finale, Buxton saw their title hopes dashed as they suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat at the hands of Mahaica Determinators FC, paving the way for Plaisance to seize the crown.
Despite the final-day heartbreak, Buxton Stars FC held on to finish as runners-up. Melanie FC claimed third place, while Golden Stars FC secured fourth.
Crucially, both Plaisance FC and Buxton Stars FC will now carry their regional success to the national stage. As the top two sides, they have officially qualified for the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) Youth Ensemble U-13 National Championship, which is scheduled to take place between late July and early August.
The final day of competition delivered the same intensity that has characterised the tournament from its opening whistle, with clubs across the East Demerara corridor displaying impressive technical ability and teamwork.
Following the conclusion of the fixtures, EDFA President, Rickford Profitt, commended the dedication of the community in making the youth competition a resounding success.
“I have a heart of gratefulness and I’m very thankful for the coordinators, parents, and volunteers. I’m happy we have completed the U-13 competition, and next comes the U-15 competition.” — Rickford Profitt, EDFA President
The GFF also extended their congratulations to all participating clubs, coaches, and match officials, wishing the top two teams success in their upcoming national fixtures. The EDFA Youth Ensemble Programme will now shift its focus entirely to the ongoing U-15 competition, which is expected to conclude in the coming weeks.

While Plaisance lifted the team trophy, several individual talents were recognised for their standout performances throughout the campaign.
