In 1980, a global figure from Guyana and someone who symbolised the intellectual talent of the CARICOM region, Walter Rodney was assassinated. It took decades after his death, with the PPP in government to hold a Commission of Inquiry into his murder. The APNU+AFC came to power while the inquiry was deep into its work and terminated the commission.
The commissioners still submitted their report, which the APNU+AFC parliament refused to adopt in the House. When the commission was dissolved, the PNC as a party, the AFC as a party, did not issue a condemnatory response. So, the record shows that the PNC, the WPA and the AFC do not think it was necessary to have a Commission of Inquiry into Rodney’s death. But these very people want an official investigation of a 70-acre farm that President Ali owns. If in the annals of political theory, that is not political vulgarity, then political theory does not exist.
During the regime of APNU+AFC, a grenade was thrown at the SUV, the owner of which was leaning on the car. He was, Glenn Lall, the publisher of one of the leading newspapers in Guyana, the Kaieteur News.
To make an attempt on the life of one of Guyana’s newspaper owners necessitated a serious enquiry of a judicial nature but no one in Guyana, including the Stabroek News which has morphed into the Kiskadee Watch, and Transparency International –Guyana Inc. (TIGI), asked for that judicial route.
The parties in government at the time was the PNC as part of APNU, WPA as part of APNU and the AFC. These strange bedfellows in July 2026 want a Commission of Inquiry into a farm of 70 acres owned by President Ali. In the annals of political theory, if that is not elephantine stupidity then political theory does not exist.
In March 2020, Guyana held its mandatory general elections. After voting day, Monday, March 2, next day, March 3, the world, the global community in general witnessed one of the ugliest manifestations of power intoxication and it was taking place right here in Guyana.
From March 3 to July 30 the most sickening attempts by an incumbent to retain power through the hijacking of the national election was played out in front of the world, and it was a political pantomime and a political circus never seen before in the world since competitive elections came into being as a way of a society choosing its governors.
The PPP won the 2020 election and when it settled down in office, held a Commission of Inquiry into this global disaster and it was not a domestic or regional disaster. It was a global tragedy and the world treated it as such. No one from the Stabroek News, TIGI, PNC, WPA, AFC testified at the investigation. In fact, the PNC and AFC rejected the life of the commission, and ridiculed the findings. TIGI and Stabroek News did not write even one word on the commissioners’ report.
The Stabroek News, TIGI, the PNC, the AFC and the infinitesimally small WPA are demanding an inquiry into the 70-acre farm of President Ali. In the annals of political theory, if this is not a journey of twisted minds looking for the lost continent of Atlantis, then political theory does not exist.
What is the world saying about us here in Guyana when our politics produces politicians who behave more facetious than clowns in a circus? A highly discredited politician, Azruddin Mohamed shouted out from the rooftop that President Irfaan Ali has a mega farm of 150 acres and inside that farm could be found poultry and sheep rearing and other commercial activities.
Mr. Mohamed in a desperate attempt to secure the impossible –societal acceptance – magnified everything he saw on the farm. It turned out that what he saw as stretching for 150 acres was a mere 70 acres. And what follows has propelled Guyana into the theatre of monkeys looking for nuts and when they find it, they put it in a place in their anatomy that is too sensitive to write about.
What follows has to be donkeys at play and they are butting their heads against each other. The people who are supposed to be elected leaders that sit in the highest forum of the land want the state to commission a judicial inquiry into the president’s farm because a discredited politician says he smelled a rat. So, we become worse than a banana republic and hold a judicial inquiry into the president’s private, commercial venture and no one has shown the nation just what illegal thing the president did.
