The transit of the MV Knidos M beneath the Bharrat Jagdeo River Bridge (BJDRB) on July 7, 2026, marks the largest vessel to date to pass under the bridge.
The Panama-registered Handymax bulk carrier, Knidos M, with an impressive height of 48 metres and 42 metres air draft, successfully completed its transit, demonstrating the bridge’s capacity to safely accommodate larger vessels navigating the Demerara River.
This achievement highlights the transformative impact of the BJDRB, which enables the efficient movement of larger ships while maintaining uninterrupted connectivity between the east and west banks of the Demerara River.
It is another step forward in strengthening Guyana’s maritime infrastructure,
and supporting Guyana’s continued economic growth.
The bulk-carrier boasts a length overall (LOA) of 186.45 metres, with a breadth of 30 metres, and its gross tonnage is 25.327 with a deadweight of 42,000 tonnes (Maritime Administration Department Guyana photo)
