FOURTEEN-YEAR-OLD Christana Chattergoon, originally from Hampton Court on the Essequibo Coast, Region Two, has earned the prestigious title of Valedictorian at Brooklyn Scholars Charter School in New York, marking another remarkable milestone in her academic journey.
Christana began her education at Hampton Court Nursery School before graduating and moving on to Hampton Court Primary School, where she completed Grade One. After migrating to the United States with her family, she continued to excel academically, consistently demonstrating dedication and a passion for learning. Despite the change in geographic location, Chattergoon continued to excel, making her family and country proud.
Throughout her years in school, Christana maintained an outstanding 4.0 Grade Point Average (GPA) while also earning the highest score on the NWEA assessment, highlighting her exceptional academic performance.
She is now preparing to begin the next chapter of her education at the high school level, carrying with her an impressive record of excellence. Her future ambition is to become a paediatrician.
“To the younger students, never stop believing in yourself. Work hard, stay humble, and don’t be afraid to make mistakes—they help you grow. Choose friends who inspire you, be kind to everyone, and always respect those who guide you. Most importantly, put God first, trust His plan, and remember that today’s effort shapes tomorrow’s success. I hope to see one of you standing here as the next valedictorian,” Chattergoon said.
Her proud parents, Angie and Anthonio Paul, have commended her unwavering commitment, discipline and determination, expressing confidence that she will continue to achieve even greater success.
“We are so proud of our child’s academic performance, and we always ensure that she has the resources she needs. Her next step is to continue her studies and pursue a career in the medical field as a paediatrician,” Angie said.
Her mother said she is extremely proud of Christana’s accomplishment, describing it as a proud moment for her family, the Hampton Court community and Guyana, as she continues to make her homeland proud through academic excellence.
