THE Department of Environment and Climate Change, in collaboration with the local Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) team, on Tuesday launched a new initiative to strengthen emissions monitoring and reporting in Guyana’s Industrial Processes and Product Use (IPPU) and other sectors.

Supported through the Green Climate Fund Readiness Programme, the project will improve data availability and institutional arrangements for emissions and mitigation tracking, and will establish a national digital Monitoring, Reporting and Verification (MRV) system to streamline collection, management and reporting of greenhouse gas emissions across IPPU, and other sectors.

Officials said the MRV system will align Guyana’s reporting systems with international standards, increase transparency, and expand opportunities to access climate finance by producing more robust, verifiable emissions data.

Implementation activities include long-term capacity development through targeted training, strengthened cross‑sector coordination, and enhanced stakeholder collaboration to improve data sharing and enable evidence‑based decision‑making and mitigation actions.

The initiative is framed as a key step towards meeting Guyana’s national and international climate commitments and advancing the country’s low‑carbon development agenda through 2030.
